Internship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two things come to mind when I think about my internship: \u00a0the the various things that had nothing to do with it directly that touched me and the intensity of the experience. \u00a0This post is very\u00a0late but once you are in the moment it is so much to take in and process that the experience is exhausting in the most fun and productive way. \u00a0That comment should not scare anyone away from the opportunity though because it was worth every ounce of effort.<\/p>\n<p>My internship at the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh with Dr. Stephanie Schuttle<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-33 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2017-ldeskins\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/233\/2016\/12\/20160627_173711-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"257\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2017-ldeskins\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/233\/2016\/12\/20160627_173711-300x225.jpg 300w, that I did not expect but enjoyed the whole time. \u00a0I found traveling on a daily basis brought about challenges unique to my experience. \u00a0Traveling between Durham and Raleigh I\u00a0knew\u00a0going into the opportunity was going to be rough. \u00a0The traffic was horrendous. \u00a0I found the time good from the stand point that I had time to process the day in route before coming home to my family.<\/p>\n<p>I saw the same lady each morning and afternoon at the parking deck cashier booth. \u00a0I began to feel so connected to her that I recognized her in the cafe at l<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-30 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2017-ldeskins\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/233\/2016\/12\/20161231_201330-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2017-ldeskins\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/233\/2016\/12\/20161231_201330-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2017-ldeskins\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/233\/2016\/12\/20161231_201330-230x230.jpg 230w, https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2017-ldeskins\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/233\/2016\/12\/20161231_201330-80x80.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>unch time and we would wave and acknowledge one another. \u00a0It may sound crazy but I strongly believe one of the things that should drive someone to education is relationships. \u00a0If not, you will not be successful because it is an aspect of the job that cannot be taught. \u00a0This instant connection with my park attendant made me think about this aspect of teaching. \u00a0She was so happy to oblige me on a request for a selfie on my last day at the Museum. \u00a0Either that or she was happy to see me go and I am goi<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-34\" src=\"https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2017-ldeskins\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/233\/2016\/12\/20160627_134352-e1483234682447-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" the more positive thought.<\/p>\n<p>My time in the\u00a0Museum\u00a0was such a great bonding experience. \u00a0Looking through my pictures from the first day it brought back a feeling of fascination with working in such an engaging environment. \u00a0From the first moments you start to feel like you are a part of the museum family. \u00a0I came in early before the public came in and walk by the staff with a wave each day. \u00a0The cafe staff took such good care of us each day. \u00a0It was like finding a new home in the community.Meeting weekly with the scientists and the Museum staff made
