I teach 7th grade and by the time my students reach me they should have a good understanding of basic number sense as well as fractions. They should also know how to perform operations with fractions. However, a big part of the 7th grade curriculum is operations with all rational numbers, including negatives. My greatest struggle has been trying to figure out what I’d like to focus on for my product. This past week has given me a good idea of all the mathematics that goes into running a manufacturing plant (there is way more that I expected)! There are so many different topics to choose from, but I believe that I have decided to focus more on ratios and proportions. Along with basic ratios and proportions, my product will focus specifically on unit rate, analyzing proportional relationships, and analyzing scale drawings. I decided to go this route because I thought it would be the easiest to connect to real-world applications. It will also be an easy way for me to tie in common fractions, basic operations, and word problems. I’m hoping that through the remaining days of my internship I will continue to pull from different experiences and find things that will fit perfectly in my math classroom!

As I’m a week into my internship experience, I have begun working on my product that will transfer my internship experiences into various lessons that I will be able to utilize in the classroom. Our goal as a Greene County…

[1

post-27","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
