Yessssss!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This school year has definitely been challenging at best!\u00a0 This school starting at the end of August and then immediately afterwards we had Labor Day and then Hurricane Florence.\u00a0 We were out of school for a week and it feels as if we started the school year from the beginning once we returned.\u00a0 It was necessary to reteach rules and classroom procedures with my students.\u00a0 It feels as if we are getting into a routine again and I have introduced my Kenan project idea to the Business class.\u00a0 They are enthusiastic and I am excited to get it launched.<\/p>\n<p>During Summer Institute there was a presentation dealing with Project Based Learning.\u00a0 My curiosity was peaked in exposing this technique to my classes.\u00a0 In prior school year&#8217;s I have occasionally had some challenges in keeping\u00a0my student&#8217;s attention during certain lessons.\u00a0 I realized that collaboration as well as kinetic activities result in more positive results.\u00a0 Many of my lessons now have a project connected to the objectives and I see that my students have better understanding of the content by working together after I have presented the curriculum.\u00a0 An additional reason I chose this direction deals with the need for my students to stay active throughout the class period.<\/p>\n<p>My students are really enjoying having projects incorporated in their lessons.\u00a0 They have expressed to me that they really enjoy having other options to learning than the standard lecture, powerpoint, and study guides.\u00a0 \u00a0I also believe that there is a higher level of comprehension when my students talk among each other on the curriculum.\u00a0 I have found that a teenager explaining to another teenager is done in &#8220;their language&#8221;.\u00a0 What I am trying to say is sometimes we as teachers speak on a level &#8220;higher&#8221; than our students unknowingly.\u00a0 My kids are able to discuss in &#8220;their language&#8221; my same content.\u00a0 I also see a sense of accomplishment as well as pride when my students present their projects.\u00a0 From a teacher&#8217;s perspective I am so proud of my students because they are taking responsibility for their learning.\u00a0 There is less confrontation when it comes to completing assignments because I am also allowing them to express their creativity as well as work with their friends.\u00a0 Behavior has improved due to this flexibility and I am receiving assignments on or near the due dates.\u00a0 I believe it is a win-win situation!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-60\" src=\"https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2019-dfedrick\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/308\/2018\/09\/Collabo-anyone-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2019-dfedrick\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/308\/2018\/09\/Collabo-anyone-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2019-dfedrick\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/308\/2018\/09\/Collabo-anyone-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2019-dfedrick\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/308\/2018\/09\/Collabo-anyone-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=BSATeacher\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This school year has definitely been challenging at best!\u00a0 This school starting at the end of August and then immediately afterwards we had Labor Day and then Hurricane Florence.\u00a0 We were out of school for a week and it feels as if we started the school year from the beginning once we returned.\u00a0 It was &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/old.kenanfellows.org\/2019-dfedrick\/2018\/09\/29\/collaboration-anyone-yessssss\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Collaboration anyone?
